How I Determine What Fabric I Buy for BFF

Posted by Lynn Holbrook on

Honestly, my purchases are made from gut feelings. If I like what I'm buying,  I believe that I can sell it to other quilters. (Lately I've been learning and trying my hand at search engine optimization, so looking at fabric is a welcome reprieve from data entry!!) There are so many beautiful fabrics to choose from and I have limited space in the building we occupy now. It's safe to say that Christmas fabrics always make me happy, so I spend a lot of time perusing my distributers' websites making wish lists and checking them often. If I can envision...

Happy August!

It's been almost a year since we moved from the tiny store on 10th Ave to our current store and we are happy to be here! These past 12 months have brought new customers and we started quilt classes this past spring and early summer, and will continue to offer them. Finishing the box UFO was very satisfying and spurred me on to learn to use a long-arm so that I can quilt it when I feel sufficiently educated. This UFO has been hanging around for a number of years and I had to get over "precious-ness" and cut up finished blocks I'd made, but ultimately didn't like. That made all the difference in how this turned out. My long-arm practice piece is a whole different animal and I seem to be approaching it like I would a doodle - a fairly restrained doodle. After watching a number of YouTube videos...

Finished the Inventory and Major Progress on a One-Block-Wonder, all on a Friday

Posted by Lynn Holbrook on

We have a huge wardrobe upstairs in the loft apartment above our store. We've done minimal remodeling except for the kitchen. We did some major stuff there. This building was built in 1904, so we have had some interesting "reveals". This One Block Wonder using panels was a revelation and it's been a lot of fun. But it's large and I'm not excited about large projects anymore. I don't think this will be a full blown quilt. Hoping to hang the quilt top with a border to cover the back of the afore-mentioned wardrobe. Furniture serves as walls for our...
