Monster quilt holders take over the store!
Posted by Lynn Holbrook on
Two large wooden rug holders came to live at the store last weekend, thanks to an auctioneer who couldn't get rid of these mammoths, and some younger men with strong bodies who delivered and set them in place. Now they will hold quilts for sale from our little community of quilters here in Sidney. Great additions! On the fraud front - it's become a less frequent thing with the fat quarters, but I had one laughable attempt on an order to authenticate 5 separate cards as each one was declined. One did authenticate, but I voided the order. So many...
My Love of Printmaking and Fabric

Last summer my husband grew a little container garden on our roof in downtown Sidney, NE. There were peppers, onions, tomatoes, herbs and flowers. I watched big containers of zinnias and heliotrope grow and blossom. I'm always looking for ways to make drawings or prints on solid fabrics so I experimented with Pentel Arts Fabric Fun pastel-looking dye sticks, and Artistro fabric markers. I drew zinnias with pencil first from my photos from the roof, and added in some blue birds and butterflies on a pre-washed light gray cotton fabric. The dye sticks are set with an iron and can...
The problem of fraud online.

In December I had a major issue with fraudsters and fat quarters. Because those are the least expensive of all the variants in the store, bots hit those and create orders to see if stolen credit card numbers are viable for mining. Fortunately, Shopify can tell these orders are likely fraudulent. I had an order today and the name on it was John Doe. I guess the bots decided to drop all pretense. Long story short, I will be systematically removing fat quarters from the online store. I don't have much of a demand for them anyway - except from...
May and the Start of Summer in Nebraska

This "wheel" quilt was a labor of love. My husband, Andrew helped me make a template that mostly worked for the "spokes" and I was able to make minor adjustments. I started this quilt in January and handed it off to the new owner about a month ago. (If my wheel quilt reminds you of a quilt you have seen online, please let me know if you know the maker of that quilt. I went off a picture on Pinterest that had no info about who created it - and it is such a gorgeous quilt, I had to attempt...
HAPPY 2025!

2024 was a busy year. I added Northcott/FIGO to my collection after a rep showed me the Space Dye line. Wow. What a gorgeous fabric and the colors work very well with most of the Free Spirit lines, including the new Kaffe x William Morris fabrics that arrived a few weeks ago. Many of the companies have had great sales and many bolts in the shop are $6-$7 a yard. This is the start of our fifth year in business here in Sidney. To shake things up in the store we have added different varieties of chocolate truffles made by a...
